The systems of hybrid, electric, or alternative-fueled vehicles are quite different from traditional vehicles. Any time the wheels are turning on the Prius, for example, it is producing 500 volts three phase AC with over 60 amps. The Toyota Highlander hybrid is 650 volts, three phase AC.  Hybrid cars, while having the same maintenance needs of traditional gasoline powered cars, also have additional special needs.  For example, ground connections must be monitored for corrosion, especially on the Honda Insight, and a special oil filter is needed on the Ford Escape Hybrid.
